Last night around 10:00 pm local time the Grand Canyon Lodge at the NORTH RIM burned down due to the Dragon Bravo Fire. 500 guests had to be evacuated from the Park.
Crews did what they could but it was impossible to save.
Such a huge loss. So many memories from there.

About 6 years ago, we stayed at the Lodge's motel. (I figure it's gone, too.). We ate at the dining room in the Lodge one night, and also sat in the main room with the 3 windows with a glass of wine and a view that won't quit.
So sad it's gone for the 2nd time. The first Lodge burned in the 1920s.

I saw a couple of days ago that they were closing the North Rim and requiring guests to leave because of wildfire, but I thought it was because the fire was in danger of blocking the only road in and out of the park. I didn't realize that it was putting park facilities in danger.
Knowing the extreme challenges the parks service is already facing, I hope they'll be able to rebuild.
NPS has said that the North Rim is closed for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Wow, devastating news and the photo's of it burning are horrendous! We had fond memories of our visit to the North rim and vowed to return one day to see more. Sadly the Lodge as we knew it will be no more. This was from our 'Highways of Happiness' report.

We had Pizza and coffee sat outside on a bench on the veranda watching the GC road train come and go. This was supposed to be lunch but it was 5pm and the first thing we had ate since breakfast. We were very impressed with the buildings and their stone walls, high ceilings and large timber supports all looking rather Granduer. The views from the lodge sat high on the rim were also impressive. It was now late afternoon/early evening and all thoughts of visiting Marble canyon this evening were gone, we were not going to miss the opportunity to witness the sunset over the North rim so we walked out of the lodge and onto a path that took us to a small outcrop with railings and found a comfortable rock to sit on. [No it wasn't softer than the others but was well formed. ;-) ]
