Frisco TX to Appleton, WI - June graduation

Planning a road trip to see my niece's graduation in Appleton WI, leaving from Frisco TX and back. Would appreciate any best/safe places to overnight and any notable places or sights along the way.

Best route is US-75/US-69 to I-44 to STL, take the I-270 bypass north to I-55 to Bloomington IL, then I-39 to Madison WI, US-151 to WI-26 to I-41 to Appleton. There is a toll between Rockford and Beloit on I-39. No cash accepted, pay $1.90 online at illinoistollway.com.

The halfway point is Rolla MO, there are several reasonably priced hotels, it's a safe town.

WI-26 is a good route and a heavily used shortcut between Madison and Oshkosh/Appleton/Green Bay, however, make sure to watch your speed, especially in Rosendale, the only town on that stretch of road.

Rosendale is pretty infamous in Wisconsin for funding a large portion of the town government with traffic ticket revenue.
