Wyoming

I am going to Wyoming April 10-20. Can anyone give me advice for the best places to visit this time of year. According to the national park service official website, the grand Teton road doesn’t open til sometime in May and the west entrance to Yellowstone doesn’t open until April 16. What else can I do or see there? I’m going from Arizona. Thanks

It's difficult to make recommendations if we don't know what interests you. Wyoming has a lot of history, from the Oregon Trail sites to battlefields to Buffalo Bill things at Cody. That's just the tip of the iceberg. The cities are all full of museums and historic sites.

So if the things you have mentioned are not wide open, is there a reason you are making this trip at this time?

Where abouts in Wyoming are you going and does your 10 days include travel time ? There might be things you are interested in over a State line or have you the option to rethink your trip entirely ? Thats not to say there aren't other interesting things in Wyoming, it's a lovely State, but knowing where you are staying will help.

First, Wyoming is a large state. I mean the most prominent areas for travel are the Cheyenne/Laramie areas, The Western Black Hills, including Devils Tower, and the Yellowstone/Tetons area and those are all practically a days drive away from each other and often don't get mixed into the same trip. So while you said Wyoming, the Yellowstone Tetons area is the only thing you specifically mentioned - is that the only area you were interested in?

What's the reason for this trip and the timing of it? As you've noted, April can be a tricky month because its still effectively winter in the mountains and most of the summer attractions are closed - although the winter ski/travel season is coming to an end. There are certainly things you can do despite the timing, but knowing your early plans will really be needed to provide any further specific ideas.

I’m thinking about going to some of the other places like hot springs state park, killpecker sand dunes, some of the scenic byways and maybe a few days in Yellowstone.

I have over a week for the trip and a pretty decent budget.
