Western Oregon to SE Oklahoma

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and new to the forum world in general :) I am trying to plan a trip to Oklahoma from Oregon. I will be driving around 2000 miles with just me and my dog and I'm terrified. I suffer from a bit of agoraphobia and panic at times. This will be my first time across the country so it's scary. I rodeo so long drives aren't anything but this is really so much longer than anything I'd normally do.

Any advise? How desolate is this drive going to be? Ideas to make the trip seem not so daunting? Especially with a rowdy 1 year old dog :)

I really am having a lot of anxiety about this trip but I need to make it for work. Any ideas, suggestions, help would be so appreciated.

Being that you will be on Interstate highways for a vast majority of the trip, it's not going to be desolate. You should be looking at I-5 to CA-46 to CA-99 to CA-58 to I-40. Plan on taking 4 days for the trip, which will be about 500 miles and 8 to 10 hours per day. You shouldn't have a problem finding pet-friendly hotels. Plan on frequent rest stops to exercise both you and your dog.

I was planning on going down to UT across WY and down through CO driving about 10 hours a day. I'm not sure I can take 4 days to get there. Is that unrealistic?

If you could be more specific where in OR and OK you are talking about, we can make better recommendations. Also, an approximate date would help, if this is a winter trip going inland may not be the best thing to do.

Regardless, 2000 miles in any less than 4 days is unrealistic. No way can this be done driving 10 hours a day in any less than 4 days. Mapping software is not realistic, you need to add 20% to predicted drive times to account for all stops and delays.

"Western Oregon" and "SE Oklahoma" are pretty big areas. Can you be a little more specific? That will make a pretty significant difference in which routes would make the most sense.

A 2000 mile trip means you will need 4 days to get there, driving about 10 hours a day, and that's with limited stops and mostly sticking to the interstates. It's unrealistic and unsafe to think you can do it in any less time, especially when traveling with a pet. Don't fall for the faulty estimates you're probably seeing from online mapping programs, which assume you can drive 75 mph, every minute of the day, without ever slowing down, much less stopping.

I'm coming from Oregon City OR to Oktaha OK. Usually for rodeo driving I do about 10 hour days hauling a trailer. That might sound unrealistic but getting to and from a rodeo with little time means I don't have the option of only going 500 miles a day. So it for sure might be unrealistic I've driven to Cheyenne WY in a single day, but never much farther than that. I'm leaving in October so still early fall. The weather shouldn't be a factor other than rain.

You started by telling us that you are scared of making this trip and open spaces, and now you're telling us you have driven a homicidal 1200 miles in a single day.

Clearly you're going do to what you're going to do, safety isn't something you're going to consider, and you seem to have all the answers (including some inaccurate ideas about October weather), so I'm not sure what you are looking for from this forum, other than the words, good luck and best wishes.
