Fall trip to New England then Eastern coast along South coast to AZ

Greetings fellow travelers and adventurers,

This fall my wife and I along with our Airedale will be leaving Washington state in September 1, 2019 heading for New England. Plan to be in Vermont by Oct. 1st, stay for a few days then off to Maine for a week. We will then wander down the Eastern coast until Northern Florida and then head East wandering around the Southern coast.

I have the route to Vermont mapped out with places picked to stay with a few boondocking places along the way. We are traveling in a Winnebago Vista 27N with solar panels on the roof. It is under 30' which provides more opportunity to fit in spots in state parks. Maybe small for some but plenty big enough for us. We spent a year in a trailer that was a foot smaller while a house was being built and had no issues, i.e. we did not go stir crazy.

We have traveled extensively West of the Mississippi but not the East Coast, so any insights and/or word to the wise would greatly be appreciated. I'm aware on the East Coast it is not as RV friendly as the in the West. Some roads you cannot even drive on and you have to be very aware of low overheads (something rarely encountered in the West). Also, I take it boondocking is fairly scare on the East Coast plus it is wise to have reservations for RV parks well in advance. Grrr, one of the advantages of a motorhome is the flexibility. Also, rv sites cost way more than in the West.

Well, you've picked close to the best time for touring New England and the east coast. You might be a week or two early for absolutely peak color, but the trade-off is that the foliage change will tend to work its way south right along with you. Unfortunately, that means that there will be lots of leaf peepers on the road besides yourselves and so yes, reservations would be in order.

I don't really see any questions in your post, so I'm not sure what kind of advice you're looking for, nor what your interests are. I will say that much of the east coast, particularly near the seashore and in the Appalachians is full of smaller state parks where you can set up your RV. Some may be boondocking in the sense that you won't have full utility hookups at each parking space, but you certainly shouldn't have too many problems finding a place to put your RV to get a night's sleep. True boondocking is pretty frowned upon for the most part simply because of the population density and the fact that there's very little open (a la BLM) land east of the Mississippi.

So what kind of help/advice, specifically, were you looking for?
