My husband and I are planning to drive from Eugene, OR to Boston, MA in a Class B camper in September. We hope to drive mostly the "Northern Route," OR, ID, MT, SD, etc. home to Boston. For those more experienced, would you plan for 2 weeks or 3 weeks? We don't want to drive every day, but a couple of long days of driving isn't out of the question. Also, welcome not to be missed suggestions!! Thanks, in advance, to readers and responders.

Is this a one way trip, or are you planning to return to Oregon on this timeline?
If it's round trip, then 3 weeks would really be a minimum. You're looking at a solid week (6 full days) of driving each way just to cover the miles, before factoring stops and detours.
If you're only going one way, then you could probably get buy with just 2 weeks, it would be about half driving vs. stopping/exploring. Even there, having 3 weeks wouldn't be a bad thing at all, though.

To help you put this in perspective, if you were to do this drive on Interstates, driving every day for about 10 hours, it would take you 6 to 7 days. So, 2 weeks would be enough, but 3 weeks would allow you to really enjoy yourselves.

Get yourself a good set of paper maps or a road atlas, and look for things that catch your eye along the way. What may be not to miss to you may be forgettable to someone else, and vice versa.
National parks along that route that interest me are Glacier, Yellowstone, and Badlands. Quirky things are Wall Drug and the Corn Palace.
Something you may want to do is avoid the majority of the toll roads between Chicago and Boston. I-80 across PA and I-86 across NY are very scenic and free, for example.
What exactly are you looking to get from the trip ? Is it about getting home with a couple of interesting stops or are you looking for a full blown road trip adventure ? What attracts you to the "Northern route" ? If I had an option of 3 weeks I would take it and make the most of the situation. You will find lots of info searching the RTA forums and checking out planning pages such as the Map centre and Road trip Attractions etc which can be found at the top and bottom of each page. Once you have the basics sorted we can make meaningful suggestions and help you tweak what you have if needed.
One interesting short stop would be the Golden Spike rest area on I-90 in MN (west of the twin cities). There is a lot of history about the plains and the road which was build through them. One of those small interesting stops. It takes a while to read all the history.
