East Coast Trip: Important States?

Hi,

Planning an east coast trip this Summer; spending few days in Newyork, driving to Washington DC.

From Washington D.C to Niagara falls: are there important places to cover during this road trip?
What is the best place for a night stay about 5-6 hours from D.C in this route?

After Niagara falls & Toronto, to get to New York which is route with most coverage? Can we cover Boston, New port, etc., and get to NY?

Would like to cover few more important places, and as many States as reasonably worth in about 4 days between Niagara and New York.

Suggestions please? Thank you.

To include Toronto and Boston in your plans, you'll need at least three full ten hour days of driving. So how much you can fit in depends on how much time you have and whether you're going to do full driving days or half days ("about 5-6 hours"). Similarly, "important places to cover" are entirely up to you. What I or anyone else might consider 'important' you might consider a waste of time.

Very generally, you can look at this discussion of a similar RoadTrip to get an idea of what's available. And some rough halfway points for planning purposes would be the State College area of Pennsylvania between DC and Niagara Falls, and roughly Utica NY between Toronto and Boston.
