Planning help from the DOT
I just received some help from the CT DOT that might be helpful to others.
I'm taking a detour to attend the funeral of a relative. That change is taking me through an area I'm unfamiliar with. Every map resource I have indicated that the instruction given to me by a family member, "just get off at exit 3 and drive through town," would be fine for someone in a passenger vehicle but for someone towing a 13' 3" 5W it would be a disaster. Google street view reveals that the road through town is full of tight turns and low-hanging trees.
I called the CT DOT and asked if they could tell me which route off the interstate the big trucks, Fedex and UPS took. I was directed to the DOT local garage supervisor who gave me the skinny. He even recommended a safe area to unhitch my 5W so I could drive my truck into town - a real break.
I hope this helps,
Michael

Thanks, Donna. Will do.
After that detour it's on to Liberty State Park in NJ to pick up my friend.
To get there from Greenwich I'll get on the 287/87 and go across the Tappan Zee Bridge. From there I thought I'd take the 287 to the 280 down to the 78 to Liberty State Park.
Any thoughts?
Smiles,
Michael

BTW, I am so sorry for your loss. My husband and I have had to detour our trip plans for a funeral, so we know it's a hard thing to take. My condolences!
