Durham, NC to New York City 31 december (New Years Eve)
Hello Everyone,
My girlfriend and I are on a lovely trip down in the Carolinas. We headed out from NYC a few days ago. We are planning on to go back the 31 th december (New Years Eve). We will drive from Durham, NC, and google maps says around 8 hours of driving. We can handle that amount of driving in one day but how will the traffic be? Are we setting us up for a failure in the magnitude of a nightmare?
Let's say we leave Durham around 8 am and arrive to Washington DC around 2 pm. And head out for NYC 3 pm.
We noticed that the drive between Washington DC and New York was kind of stress full on our way down (26th december) and I guess that my main question is how bad can it be the 31th december the way in to new york?
Thank you all for any info you might have on this.
Happy New Years

I'm with glc on this and would be surprised if the trip back, on the date and at the time specified, would see much in the way of improvement in traffic conditions between DC and NY. In fact, I'd expect it to be congested by the time you reach Richmond and just as bad from DC to NY as it was on Dec 26. You might do better with an earlier start--might being the operative word.
Glad to know you're enjoying North Carolina. Come back soon.
