Sequoia to Las Vegas in a day
:) Hi!
We are travelling from South Africa to the USA over December. We will be staying in San Francisco (Marina side) for three days until the 19th of December. On 19 Dec I was thinking to leave early and drive through to the Sequoia National Forest and spend the day there to check out some of the main attractions (General Sherman, Big Tree Forest mainly)
We have booked accommodation in Las Vegas 20 December and therefore have 1 night between Sequoia and Vegas to get there.
I have not booked anything as I figured we could drive in the general direction of Las Vegas after the day visit at Sequoia and find a place to stay over in Bakersfield or something a little closer. This would still give us the next day 20 Dec to travel to Las Vegas. (So as not to have to do too much more driving on the 19th)
Where would the best place be to stay between Sequoia & Las Vegas? (Closer to Sequoia probably)
What would be the best route to take to Vegas from Sequoia?
Could we get away with not booking and finding a place to stay along the way?
Am I being realistic regarding travel time to and within Sequoia National Park?
Thank you in advance for any advice!
It all depends on the weather.
Hi, and Welcome to the Great American Roadtrip Forum.
You will need to check the weather and the access to the roads within Sequoia NP, when leaving San Francisco. If the weather is good and the roads are clear, you could drive all the way through the park, exiting to Three Rivers. There are accommodation options in that area, - Visalia and others. Or as you suggest, you could drive through to Bakersfield. Another popular place for a stop over is Lake Isabella
You should not have any problems finding accommodation without booking for those dates.
Have you considered a detour on 20th, through Death Valley NP, where the temperature will be much more visitor friendly at that time of the year, than during the tourist season.
