We need to take our new ORV WindRiver TT from Sacramento, Ca to La Grande, Oregon for repairs. ( faded front cap on 3 month old TT) There are routes on Interstate 5 to 84 in Oregon but others have suggested alternate routes thru either Weed, Ca or Winnemuca, NV. Does anyone have experience traveling this route or part of this route? Would like to avoid white knuckle traveling!
Sorry to hear about the faded cap on such a new trailer. But it is a good reason to take a road trip. Welcome to the trip planning advice forums!
The least difficult driving (grade, size of lanes, etc.) is always going to be on the Interstate highway. I've taken all of those alternative routes over the years, and they can be scenic, but if you are concerned about "white-knuckle" driving -- you ought to stay on the major highways.

Mark makes very good points, but taking I-80/US-95/I-84 is almost 200 miles shorter than going through Portland and it's not particularly white-knuckle. Going cross country from Weed would involve some rather winding and hilly 2 lane roads and I wouldn't recommend that.
Either way you go, plan on one overnight, it's too far to drive straight through. There are not a heck of a lot of places to stop between Winnemucca and Boise, keep that in mind if you go that way.
I agree with GLC -- my mom and dad's trailer also came from La Grande (Nash rig), and they would take that route easily. (Unfortunately they no longer have a rig at all.)
