So me and my gf are going to be driving from Sacramento to Pensacola in mid-July. We have 8 days for the trip, and I'm looking for any suggestions on where to stay overnight or things to see along the way. I know at a minimum she wants to see da Grand Canyon and stay in San Antonio since we have friends there. If possible we'd like to see Las Vegas. I'm also considering driving through Yosemite and Death Valley. Again any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

It's approximately a 5 day drive so with 8 available you can do a little sightseeing. You could head into Yosemite and across the Sierra Nevada on CA120 [Tioga Pass] and then take 395 south to Lone Pine and 136 to 190 across Death valley. From Death valley junction take the 'Locals route' using State line/Ash Meadows road to Pahrump and 160 to Vegas and then on to the Grand canyon south rim. From the GC to San Antonio is going to be a 2 day drive and then you could spend a large part of the following day with friends before getting 150 miles or so under your belt for the final days drive to your destination. So that gives you about 4 days to get to and enjoy the canyon, a night in or close to Yosemite, a drive through Death valley and night in Vegas and then a half day and night at the canyon.
