Kenilworth, New Jersey (North NJ) to Sacramento/Davis, California (North Cali)

Hi Everyone,

I'm planning a 10-day (ish) trip starting the third week of August (2015) and ending the fourth week of the month. I would like to drive about 10 hours a day and will have another person helping me drive. Any advice on scenic or artistic stops/highways/or any other tips you can offer?

There's no shortage of places in NJ to get hold of good maps. Among the best are AAA - if you are a member they will be free. Any big box or stationary store will have a Rand McNally Road atlas which is also excellent. No doubt you will use the interenet to find places specifically to your interest. But if you look carefully, you will see scenic roads marked on all those maps.

A third source for maps is State Welcome Centres and Visitor Centres.

Don't be tempted to rely solely on electronics. Many have done so at their peril - some fatal.

One thing I didn't mention is that I will be moving out to Davis, California for graduates school. Thus, this is not only a road trip, but also I will be carrying a lot of stuff in my car. Does that make a difference? I just became an AAA member. I'll see how I can get maps from them.Thanks, again!

To get maps if you are a AAA member: go to your nearest branch and present your card. Too far away? Get a road atlas at your local big box store.
