I live in Rockland County, NY. My 15 year old son and I have a week to go on a roadtrip this summer. He was thinking waterparks and Dinners, Drive Ins, & Dives. This will be my first real roadtrip. We'll be by ourselves because my husband and 16 year old daughter are working that week. I'd appreciate any guidance. Thank you

Did you have any specific ideas on where you're thinking of going? With a week, you can go pretty much anywhere on the eastern half of the US, but of course, the farther you drive, the less time you'll have for playing at waterparks and other attractions.
DDD restaurants can be found pretty much anywhere at this point. I believe you can search their locations on the food network website, and there are several different apps that can also help you find restaurants that have been featured on DDD and other similar shows.
Waterparks, I'd bet your son can find a few that look most interesting to him. Water Country USA in Williamsburg, VA could be one to look at that's about 1 day drive away. A bit farther away (requiring at least 1 overnight stop) would be Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN or Holiday World in Santa Claus, IN. Even Sandusky, OH might be a place to look - it's more famous for it's roller coasters, but there are a few waterparks in the area too.
Once you've got an idea of where you want to go, then we can help you work out the details.
Do you have any good maps of NY and surrounding States? If not, I would get some. You can sit down with your son and look at all the attractions and places of interest marked on the map - natural, historical and touristy. Once you have picked out those attractions, a route will appear before you. You can then calculate distances and decide how far you want to drive to include the places of interest you have chosen. You will not see all that detail on a little screen. Besides, you are going to need good maps when on the road, so may as well have the use of them while planning.
