Road trip from NYC to San Jose

Hello everyone:
I am currently planing a road trip from NYC to San Jose.
Because I am not familiar with the interesting sites that along the road. Could someone please give some hints like the wonderful places along the road? I may spend 10-15 days for self driving.

The fact is that with 10-15 days for a single cross-country drive, literally everywhere in the US is within reach, so listing "the wonderful places along the road" would take far more space than we have available. So if you'd like some help, you're going to have to narrow things down quite a bit by first letting people know what's of interest to you, any places that are already on your proposed itinerary, how long you'd like to drive each day, any budgetary restrictions, etc.
