Seattle to Maine
I will be driving from Seattle to Maine with two cats. I plan on driving during the day and staying at motels. How many miles do you recommend driving a day? (Or, how many hours of driving a day do you recommend?) I want this trip to be a pleasant one for kitties and me...we are in no great rush. I have never done this before, your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your input.

An average.
Hello and welcome to RTA !
Where as the 'How far can I drive' will vary for different people, 500 to 600 miles per day is possible to do safely on a multi day trip. This would equate to about 10 hours on the road with time for lunch and rest stops etc but no sight seeing. If you have time and can take it steadier and visit a few places along the way, even better. Of course you should not drive on if you start to feel fatigued, once that happens you are already in the danger zone.
Have a safe trip !

A change for all of you.
With 2 kitties, you might be wise to do quite a bit less than 600 miles, especially if you are not pushed for time. If you have a good look at your map, there are a couple of nice scenic and interesting detours off (and parallel with) I-90 which make a nice change from the interstate. Scenic routes are marked with a dotted line.
I have often seen travellers walk their kitties and cats on a leash at rest areas.
