spontaneous road trip

Hello all,
I am new to the site and was hoping to gain some quick insight for an upcoming road trip I am taking. In a cross-roads of my career path decision I have decided to take the upcoming break( school teacher) as an opportunity to take a road trip and hopefully figure out what is ahead for me. I am from New Jersey and my ultimate destination is New Orleans. With 10 days total available for this trip I am hoping to take in a scenic and "country" route. Does anyone have any suggestions on "breathtaking" destinations or must see sights? Whether it be particular highways through the mountains, national state parks, or just scenic and historic towns along the way.

The idea of this trip is to help me figure out what to do in my future so if you have any particular locations or even exact locations that you visited and it gave you a spiritual experience please share!

New Orleans has become one of my favorite places to visit in a relatively short time. It's fairly easy to get around the city proper by using the street car system. You can get an all-day pass for $3.00. With this, you can travel from the Mississippi River along Canal Street, as well as out to the Garden District and other points, too.

While there, you may want to take a trip on the ferry over to Algiers Point ($2 each way.) This is a bit of a "hidden jewel" of the area. It's a very walkable neighborhood and has a lot of historic homes in that class New Orleans "shotgun" style. I spent a week there before Christmas (at a friend's house) and it was really a good time. There's an English-style pub there that you enter through a TARDIS, as well as a nice walking/biking trail along the levee that includes a look at jazz history.

With your ten days you could take some time to explore the Skyline Drive in Virginia and even the Blue Ridge Parkway, which starts at the end of Skyline Drive.

well you have to ask yourself what kinds of things do you enjoy? When I take my road trip I will be seeing historic sites, museums, botanical gardens, antique stores, historic houses & mansions, parks & food places I've seen on tv.

Stopping in DC has a boat load of museums to check out. If you go through Memphis TN you can stop at Graceland if you're an Elvis fan. VA= Busch Gardens. KY has the corvette museum & the Perryville Battlefield.
