New Member Question: How many miles is "normal" to drive each day?
Hi All:
Just signed up. Planning on taking a road trip in June 2015. My son and I plan on taking about a 3000 mile trip. We'd like to do it in 3 weeks. But we'd also like to be able to make some stops and stay awhile. How many miles is "normal" to drive each day? I'm 65 and my son is 21 so we have different ideas on how much driving per day is ideal :). Any suggestions? Thank you.
Huge difference in 'normal'.
Every one is different, which is what makes each road trip unique and something that can be set at a pace you are comfortable with. I would put 3000 miles over 3 weeks in a 'comfortable for most' bracket with plenty of time to sight see and 'when' and 'where' to stop will be down to where you want to go while keeping the mileage at a safe and comfortable distance. Some days you may only do a few miles around the place you are visiting, a National park for example. We find 400 miles and a some smaller sight seeing opportunities remains enjoyable while being on the road for 11 or 12 hours, whereas 600 miles is possible in that time, it's more 'work like' with time for only basic stops for food and fuel and a stretch and clear the mind. So basically to answer your question, anything from 50 to 600 miles in one day could be considered "normal", depending on your plans for that particular day.
Once you have a good idea of places you want to visit, post them up and we can make suggestions and recommendations. Enjoy the planning !!
