Portland to San Fran Road Trip mid-October

Hi everyone - new here, so I apologize if this is a redundant post. My husband and I live in Chicago, and are considering flying into Portland and making a road trip to San Fran roughly mid-to-late October. We are looking for more outdoorsy/hiking stops along the way - i.e. Redwoods and was also hoping to squeeze in a stop near Napa. I understand autumn colors are not quite what they are in the midwest or east coast, but I've read the Wilamette Forest/Valley is beautiful and would love to see any colors we can.

Any suggestions on hiking spots? I've read so many different things on weather as well. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Here are some discussions of various points of interest between the Pacific Norwest and Northern California. Some of my own favorite, albeit admittedly short, hikes in that region include those within the coastal Oregon state parks and the Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail in Redwoods National Park.
