Two week road trip California and Grand Canyon

Hello all,

I'm new to this whole game but am planning a road trip for June/July 2014.

I fear I may only have a fortnight. Ideally I'd love to take in LA, San Francisco and the Grand Canyon, with some stops along the way obviously.

But is that overambitious for a fortnight?

Would LA, Vegas and the Canyon be easier? What's the best way of combining at least some of California with the Grand Canyon within a two-week drive?

Ideally, I would begin and finish in LA too to add to the complications as it seems to be expensive not to fly in and out of the same location.

Might it be easier just to stick to California?

Also given the time of year, will Death Valley etc be unbearably hot?

Two weeks is enough time for most, but much depends on how much time you want to spend in any one place. You could actually add to your list if you like to keep on the move.

A popular loop trip starting and ending in LA would look something like this > LA 2 days> Grand canyon NP [south rim]2 days [1 driving day and 1 at canyon] > Las Vegas 2 days> across Death valley to Bishop/Mammoth Lakes 1 day [yes it will be hot but ok to enjoy the landscape from the comfort of the car with a couple of short walks to viewpoints] > Yosemite via Tioga Pass 2 days> San Fran 2 days > LA via Big Sur along the coast with an overnight stop, Cambria? 2 days.

There are other ways to do it, but thats a reasonable place to start planning and see how it fits with your interests and then juggle accordingly.
