Vancouver to Toronto - Early May
Hi everyone
I will be road tripping from Vancouver to Toronto in early May this year with a few friends.
I would like to stop off near Banff for a few nights. Following Banff, we will probably duck down into the states and I think I'd possibly like to see Mount Rushmore and Chicago (not essential) but other than that, the trip is fairly open and I am looking for ideas of good places to stop along the way.
Our timeframe starting in Vancouver is around 1.5 - 2 weeks and the age of the travellers is early to mid 20's, so we will probably be looking for a mix of some nice national parks, college towns and larger cities.
Does anybody have any suggestions of a good route to take and stops to make along the way? By the way I'm from Australia, so apologies if I'm a bit clueless.
Cheers

In addition to the specific sites you mentioned as goals, there are many other places to see both near your planned stops and in between. Banff actually sits in the midst of several Canadian national parks including Mount Revelstoke, Glacier, Yoho, Banff and Jasper. Then around Mount Rushmore, there's also Devils Tower, Wind and Jewel Caves, the Badlands, and the Crazy Horse Memorial. You might also want to alter your route between those two areas to take in Glacier , Yellowstone, and Little Bighorn Battlefield.
Then as you move east, it would be easy enough to take in some college towns (large colleges in relatively small towns, such as Madison (Wisconsin), West Lafayette (Purdue) or South Bend (Notre Dame) IN, and East Lansing MI (Michigan State). Large Cities on your route, besides Chicago, would be Minneapolis MN and Detroit MI. And don't forget Niagara Falls near the end.
