An idea for next road trip?

Hi,

I live in Edison, NJ. I was looking for somewhere I could take my wife and 2 year old this summer. I am looking for some place quiet and relaxing, with scenic drives, and maybe some places young kids may enjoy. It also needs to be within a day's drive from where I am at. Any suggestions?

Just thinking of "within a day's drive" of where you are gives me a lot of thoughts:

- Upstate New York, in the Adirondack region
- The Maine Coast
- Anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic
- The hills of Virginia, Kentucky, or Tennessee
- Vermont's Green Mountains or New Hampshire's White Mountains

All of Tim's suggestions are spot on, but a few things to note. A two year old is going to have the same great time no matter where you take him, so be sure to see that there activities that suit Mom and Dad. One of the places Time Mentioned, the White/Green Mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont would be a good choice with activities that will please both you and your youngster. In the White Mountains, there are several small amusement park type places that cater particularly to the smaller visitor including Story Land in Glen NH and Six Gun City and Santa's Village in Jefferson, as well as Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream in Waterbury VT and Vermont Teddy Bear in Shelbourne.

Another area to consider that Tim didn't specifically mention are the beaches and wildlife refuges of the Delmarva Peninsula. There are undeveloped beaches in the Delaware Seashore State Park, boardwalks in Rehoboth DE and Ocean City MD, the famous ponies of the Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge, even a small NASA launch facility at Wallops Island. And you can reach it all by ferry from Cape May NJ.
