Seattle to Yosemite taking in the Redwoods & some coast
Hi
We're planning a 4 day / 3 night drive from Seattle to Yosemite in early August. We have campsite booked in Yosemite on Mon 6th Aug. We are a family of 4, with two boys aged 9 & 11. We'd like to both see some coast, plus the redwoods, do some hiking. Can you recommend places to stay & eat and/or improve our plan?
These is our proposed stopovers (with estimated drive times in brackets)
Fri pm: Seattle to Eugene 5hrs
Saturday: Eugene to Eureka - 5hrs
Sunday: Eureka to Sacramento - 5hrs
Monday : Sacremento - Yosemite - 3hrs
Thanks
Sue (from London, so really haven't a clue what to plan to see!!)
Expect longer drive times.
Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !
Your travel days are doable, but your travel times are overley optimistic. Google maps travel times are all but impossible to match and you are trying to beat them ! As you want to see the Redwoods I would actually push further on day 1, to Grants Pass, or even as far as Crescent City CA, [although that would be a long day in the car] to give yourself more time among the Redwoods and along the coast. You could also consider cutting across to the coast sooner and stop night 1 in Coos Bay.
After you have visited Yosemite do you return to Seattle ? You could take an inland route where you could visit Lake Tahoe, Lassen Volcanic park, Crater Lake and perhaps the Colunbia River Gorge, depending on time of course.
