2 week road trip in Aug/Sep
Hey guys, I am in the DC area. My gf and I are planning to take a roadtrip in the US this year. It can be anywhere!
We can either start driving from DC or do a fly and then driving road trip.
One of the options we are thinking is to fly into LA, drive on route 66 and then fly out of Chicago (or vice versa).
Are there any other scenic routes in the country that we can do? The only constraint is that it can't be longer than two weeks.
Thanks.
The True Meaning of No Constraints
Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!
Unfortunately, having "the only constraint" being that the trip can't be longer than two weeks, and being willing and able (apparently) to pay the considerably hefty premiums for both two 'open jaw' tickets and the one way drop-off fee on the car rental, means that the entire country is open to you. There's simply no way that we, or anyone else, can narrow that down for you or offer any meaningful suggestions. These forums are full of trips that have appealed to people for one reason or another. Knowing nothing about you, we can't say which, if any, will appeal to you. That's up to you and your girlfriend. So look around and see what whets your appetite. Then we can help you make the most of your trip.
I will say that it's a bit late to try to drive Route 66. That road was decommissioned about 25 years ago once it was completely replaced by I-40/I-44/I-55. There are bits and pieces of the old roadway still out there, but as a destination in and of itself, it was always more of a myth than a reality anyway.
