Trip from D.C. to San Francisco
Hi Everyone!
So, I've been reading a bunch of the posts throughout the forum, and everyone has such a wealth of information, I figured it'd be good to see what kind of help I can get! A friend of mine has moved to SF and wants to bring her car out this summer, unfortunately the only time we can both get off work is the week before memorial day. We plan to leave DC on Friday 5/18 at around 1pm (i have to get to DC from NY to get the car) and I need to leave from SF the following Thursday evening 5/24 (whenever the last flight is). I know this doesn't give us a lot of time and will end up with pretty long days in the car, but we were hoping we could squeeze a little sightseeing in somewhere. I was hoping to visit friends in Tulsa, but that seems to be too far out of the way. We're not too concerned about the length of driving days as we've done a lot of traveling together and have spent many hours driving and sitting on trains. Seeing as we've never actually done this type of road trip before I was hoping for some input from more experienced road-trippers.
If anyone has any ideas about what we could realistically see/go, that'd be awesome!
A Squeeze, But Not Impossible
Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!
You've basically got six full days for a trip that requires five. Even going by way of Tulsa only adds another 150 miles or so to a nearly 3000 mile drive, so if you want to visit your friend, by all means do. You would have a little time to fit in a few stops along the way. say 4 or 5 two hour stops at significant sites, as well as 3 to 4 rest breaks each day. Assuming that you would like to include Tulsa in your drive, then a few of the larger, better known attractions you could include in your travels would be the Arch and Museum of Western Expansion in St. Louis, Tulsa and the Oklahoma City Memorial, Cadillac Ranch, the Petrified Forest, and the Grand Canyon.
