Hi
My wife & I are planning to do a road trip Nyc to Niagara falls
We have only 3 days and we would like to know what is the must see sites on the way
If it's possible also to recommend which roads to take- I don't want to stay on the highways all the way

Hi, and Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum.
You don't really have a great deal of time to do much sightseeing, or get off the interstates. It is a full day's drive from NYC to Niagara Falls. So with a day there, and a day back, you would have one full day at the falls. There is quite a lot to do and see at the Falls, and you will want to go to the Canadian side, which is considered by most as the best way to see the falls. There are tours which take you behind the Falls. There is the Maid of the Mist boat tour - I loved it! And on the Canadian side there is the IMAX movie of the Falls and its history. Well worth seeing. Go for a walk onto Goat Island (I think is what it is called). And much more.

We really don't believe in "Must Sees" on this forum, because the beauty of a roadtrip is that you can customize a trip to exactly what interest you - and that means one person's must see is another persons must skip.
However, these threads should give you some ideas to think about.
One big note, however, is that if this is a round trip in 3 days, you don't have much time. Its going to take you about 8 hours of driving each way if you stick to the freeways, so if you want to get onto slower 2 lane roads, it would take you every bit of 3 days to drive there and back!

Your best bet is take 1 day each way so you have a day in Niagara Falls. For a change of pace, you could take different highways each way - take NY-17 (or I-80/I-380/I-81) /I-86/US-219 - and on the way back, take the Thruway - or vice versa.
