I-15 is closed between CA-138 and US-395 due to a brush fire. This would happen on the getaway afternoon for a holiday weekend. Northbound traffic is being escorted through by the CHP, but it's causing terrible backups. They probably won't have southbound open till sometime tomorrow.
Suggested alternate to/from LA and Las Vegas would be CA-14 and CA-58.
3 out of 4 lanes in each direction have been reopened, but the fire is only about 20% contained.

The congestion through there is bad enough that one closed lane just makes it worse. For LA people heading to LV, CA-14 and CA-58 are good suggestions. For San Diegans, though, they may be better off going up I-15 to I-10 east to US 95 north.

I use this roadway and pass about 2-3 times a month, I've seen just about every form of weather and vehicle-caused mishap on it. For the time involved I'd stick to the Cajon Pass, no matter the extent of the delay. Driving more miles, using more fuel to accomplish a similar route doesn't make that much sense to me. Besides, it makes a great viewing platform for fire-fighting-watching.
