Northern Mn... and overlooked gem for wilderness road tripers
Hello all,
I am relativly new to the forum but feel I have some good information to share about an overlooked area of the US when it comes to road tripping. The Boundary Waters Canoe area in Northern Mn is an amazing place to visit even for only a couple of days. I know it is off the beaten path for most people going cross country but I have never seen such untouched wilderness in all my travels. The hiking/ canoeing/ camping opttions are almost limitless. Day travel through the park is free with a self issued day permit and overnight camping in the park is about $16 per group. There are also numerous free camping areas just outsidde the park if you know where to look with numerous state run campgrounds with the normal fees and accomidations around as well. I have worked in the area for a number of years now and would be happy to help route folks up and through the area in order to maximize the experiance. There are also tons of outfitters in the area you can rent canoes and kayaks from at reasonable prices so you can get off the road and into the wild for a few days. The wildlife is also spectacular with moose, wolves, loons and eagles in abundance. Its a great place to visit and I hope at least a few of you consider it.
