Loop from Indiana to Texas and back

Hello road trip people!

My boyfriend and I are trying to plan a 9-day road trip for mid-August.
We will be starting in southern Indiana, and are hoping to do a loop that will allow us to stop in Memphis on the way to Austin, TX, then head out east to check out New Orleans, and getting an afternoon in Louisville, KY before heading home.
We are both fairly new to road-tripping, so we are trying to figure out how doable this kind of trip would be in our time-frame. Our only requirements are that we stay a full day/night in Austin. I am really excited about seeing a lot of the country that I haven't seen before, and don't mind having to drive so much. If it's too ambitious, where would you recommend cutting through?

Such a trip is well within reason. It would require that you spend about half of your 9 days driving, but even with a full day in Austin and a half day in Louisville, that still leaves you 4 full days to apportion to other stops along the way. Take a day in New Orleans as well and that leaves you about a day and a half worth of 'other' stops on the way down to Austin (Memphis, Dallas, etc.) some time for a scenic by way in southwest Louisiana (The Creole Nature Trail), and a day's worth of stops on the way home (Natchez Trace Parkway, Tupelo, Nashville, etc.)
