Any suggestion for a 3 days week end trip North to San Diego?

Hi,

I am French and I am new in San Diego. I am looking for a itinerary for this week end (Friday-saturday-Sunday) for a road trip north to San Diego. Does anyone have something that I can enjoy for 3 days by chance.

Welcome to RTA, and welcome to San Diego from another San Diego County resident! I have several ideas, things that my husband and I have done in the past (we've lived in the County for 28 years):

1) Drive up the coast to San Simeon - stop at Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Solvang, and then see Heart Castle at San Simeon. Drive home via the inland route (I-5, I-210, I-10, I-15) stopping at whatever strikes you: Pasadena (drive the parade route; we did that by accident at 3 am one time towing an RV), Santa Ana racetrack, the outlet centers at Lake Elsinore, and a hike at Lake Hodges in Escondido.

2) A lot of people love to go to Palm Springs for the weekend, even for the summer. It's 2 to 3 hours, take a hotel, enjoy their pool. (The hotels are usually cheaper in the summer.) Go to Joshua Tree the following day. Come home on the 3rd day, down the side of the Salton Sea, to I-8 through the mountains. Stop for a lovely lunch at Pine Valley Inn before heading home.

3) My kids would say DISNEYLAND, KNOTTS BERRY FARM, UNIVERSAL STUDIOS.

4) Spend a 3 day weekend in the Burbank/Hollywood area if you like films or TV. The Hollywood Walk of Fame, Graumann's Chinese Theatre, Kodak Theater, City Walk, Universal Studios, or (if a weekday) the three-hour-tour at Warner Brothers Studio.

My husband and I also did a trip to Ojai for a concert, then came home through Simi Valley to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. That was lots of fun, and that Library was amazing!

Those are just a few ideas! Really, get a good California map and find something within 200-300 miles to make a really nice weekend.

I grew up in San Diego, I totally encourage Solvang its so cute I love that place, when we wanted to go somewhere fun we headed to Venice Beach alot, its an incredible place to go, there's a ton of little shops, street performers, we've even seen a movie star or 2! and your really close to the Santa Monica Pier and promonade
If you want to stay a little closer to home we made a trip to Julian every year mostly in October for the apple festival but any time is good there, and if you like antique shopping you have to pass through Ramona to get to Julian, Ramona has cute little shops and along the way are a ton of winerys and little specialty shops
We also went to bates nut farm in Valley Center several times a year, its a good place to have a little picnic, feed the animals, and they have nuts, candy and all kinds of other things. That's also a prime place if your in the market for pumpkins around October, we got a 120 pound one there a few years back.
This isn't everyone's cup of tea but we really enjoyed going to old town in San Diego and the missions, we went to San Juan Capistrano mission and there's on in Oceanside and of course a few San Diego, you can go on a tour and there's shops and resturant's around them in most cases
