Louisiana to Smokies??

Hi! Hubby, 4 y.o. son & I are planning a semi-road trip to the smokies in 2 weeks from 7/15-7/19. We will be driving from Monroe, LA & flying back from Asheville, NC. We have 2 nites booked at the big waterpark resort in sevierville.

The basic plan is to head out Friday, drive 8 or so hours from monroe & stop over somewhere in or near chattanooga. Then check out the area there & head to sevierville on Sat. for 2 nites. Monday will be a "free" day as we drive in to asheville for the flight back the next day.

Any suggestions as to what not to miss-or what TO miss-along the way? Eats, attractions, sights, historical, etc.. We'll be in sevierville the longest & probably won't want to spend the entire at the parks. Thanks in advance!

If you plan to get all the way to Chattanooga on Day 1 with a four year old, then you aren't going to have much time for major stops. And even so, you're not going to make it in 8 hours. Plan on 10 and also plan on making a quick stop every few hours to let your son get some exercise and fresh air.

In the Sevierville area, the obvious place to check out are Great Smoky Mountain National Park (Be sure to get the age appropriate Junior Ranger pamphlet for your son and turn it in to a Ranger when completed.), Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Chimney Rock Park in Asheville and the Hickory Ridge Homestead in Boone.
