We live on Cape Cod in MA, and are planning a road trip for end of August up to Quebec, Montreal, down through Niagara and back home again, planning to take in mountains and lakes along the way. We are two grown ups, an active 11 year old and a mellow 14 year old. Suggestions very welcome!

The most important thing for us to know in order to be able to help you is: How much time do you have for this trip? Other things that may be of help:
Are you planning on hiking in the mountains, or do you just want to spend time amongst them?
Are you planning on doing any canoeing/kayaking (perhaps you have your own equipment)?
What kind of lodging are you planning on - camping, motel/hotel, lodge, a combination of different styles?
Outside of specific locations (e.g. Niagara Falls), are there any other things that interest you and your family that may help with suggestions?
We'll have a total of about ten days. We would like to do a few specific things: museums and family-friendly activities in Montreal and Toronto; Maid of the Mist at Niagara; a Zipline experience on the way back through NY and MA. Suggestions?
Welcome back! Since this thread was started over a year ago, will your itinerary still be at the end of August?
I found a couple of zip line tours: one at the Berkshire East ski area and another at Zoar Outdoor. The second one states it takes 3 hours - I'm actually interested in checking that one out myself! As a side note, both of these are in the same town of Charlemont on the Mohawk Trail (MA route 2.)
