The fastest way would be to follow the path of old route 66 - which is I-44 to I-40 to I-15.
Its 1800 miles and requires a minimum of 3 long (12 hours each) days on the road to do it safely.
*From* LA *to* St. Louis is I-15/I-40/I-44. Definitely a 3 day drive, suggested overnights in Gallup NM and Clinton OK.
