Hi all, my boyfriend and I are planning a trip from san diego to houston. I was hoping to see the grand canyon and maybe santa fe or albuquerque on our way. Do you have any suggestions?

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!
Is this going to be a one-way trip, or a round trip? If it's a round trip, you will be quite pressed for time if you are planning on spending any significant amount of time in Houston.
Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !
With 6 days for your journey you certainly have time to make your hopes come true, and some ! You won't have an abundance of time to spare but some suggestions to pick and choose from that you can base on your interests would be as follows; You could head through Anaza Borrego Desert state park to the Salton sea and up through Joshua tree NP on leaving SD. You could hook up with parts of the original route 66 from Needles through Oatman, Kingman and Seligman. Around the Grand canyon there is Walnut canyon and Sunset Crater, and a little further down the road on I40 is the Petrified forest on route to Albu. Personally, I would most likely exit the Grand canyon by the East entrance through Cameron and 160 to 163 through Monument valley and past Four corners to Farmington where the 550 takes you towards Albu and Santa Fe. You could then, either hook up with I40 through Amarillo and drop down through Witchita Falls and Fort Worth, or head to Roswell, past Carlsbad Caverns through San Antonio.
