However I don't know where to start as I'm reasons it could take up to ten hours, I would like to see some nice scenery but I would also like to get to Vegas in under 8 hours if possible!!

your only choice
Welcome to the RTA Forum!
If you want to get from Yosemite to Las Vegas in the shortest time possible, then your best bet is to take go down to Fresno then take CA-99/CA-58/I-15 to Las Vegas. This is all freeways once you get to Fresno, and while under 8 hours is a bit optimistic, 8-9 hours on the road would be a reasonable expectation.
Actually, since this trip is in April, its probably your only realistic option to make the trip in one day. Tioga Pass will still be closed at this time of year, going around via Bakersfield is really the only way to make the trip in one day. All of the other options involve going north via Lake Tahoe or even going through Bakersfield and cutting across through Death Valley all start to make for a trip that really too long for a single day.
This is the most discussed route on the forum, so if you spend a little time looking around here you should find lots more information to help with your planning.
