I am heading back to Iowa beginning tomorrow and am tired of the interstate driving! I have a couple of days to get there and would love some suggestions on detours! Quirky is great! I've already hit Chicago, so anything/where else would be appreciated!

...a possible similar RoadTrip that, in part, covers the ground you're looking at. While you don't have a lot of extra time, you will have the opportunity to take a few scenic side trips away from the Interstates. Take a look at using US-62 down through western New York and Pennsylvania with possible stops in Jamestown, NY at the Lucy and Desi Museum and in Oil City/Titusville, PA at the sites of the first producing oil wells in the world. Then US-6, US-224, or US-30 all offer alternatives to the turnpikes through Ohio and Indiana with some old frontier battlefields (e.g. Tippecanoe) along the way. US-6 across northern Illinois will bring you by Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks on the Illinois River before returning you to Iowa in the Quad Cities area.
