My husband and I are planning a trip in September from western Maine to Glacier National Park then down to Yellowstone and Grand Teton. From there we would like to come back through South Dakota so we can see the Badlands. We have three weeks and will be camping in our van. Does this trip sound reasonable? It's much more that we've ever done.

I think your basic plan sounds pretty good. I wouldn't try to do all of that in less than 3 weeks, but I think that you should be fine to fit a nice trip in during that window.
Did you have a route in mind or any stops that you were thinking about as you headed out west?
We would like to go out on a northern route, through Canada, then return through South Dakota and see Mt Rushmore at least. We'd like to see wildlife and mountains and any State or National Parks we can fit in.
