NYC to New Orleans - Feb 2010
Hi All,
We are planning a 7 day trip from NYC to New Orleans, we are not from America so would like to hear some suggestions!
We were looking at cutting down directly through virginia, tennesee Alabama Etc.. however it looks like it may get a little boring?
Are we better heading down the east coast and then cutting over when we get near jacksonville?
Any MUST SEE places? Not so much into the histroy as we dont really know much about it! However we do want to see some fun country towns and bigger cities..
Thanks!
One of the All-Time Least Boring Drives!

Although it's true that there is a great deal of American history along the route that you'll be traveling, that is by no means its only attribute. If you want great scenery, quaint towns, and interesting roads, this route has plenty of each. Start by heading west out of New York on I-78 to I-81 south. This will bypass much of the urban East including Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington in favor of getting into the Appalachians sooner and bring you near to Hershey, PA and Winchester, VA before getting to Shenandoah National Park. At about this point, you'll also be in position to enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway by Lexington, VA and Asheville, NC on the way to Rocky Mountain National Park. From here you should probably head west to Nashville to pick up the Natchez Trace Parkway down to Natchez, MS and then the short run down US-61 to New Orleans.
