Boston to Maine
My brother and I are driving from Boston to Portland, ME in one day. We have never been to New England and want to see as much as we possibly can in the very short time we're there. We would welcome any route suggestions that would help us get the most out of our trip. We don't mind going out of our way or backtracking. Thank You!

Welcome!
Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!
Boston to Portland is about 2 hours by the quickest route (I-93 to I-95) on a good traffic day. You could take MA-128 out to Gloucester and tour around Cape Ann, head North on MA-133 to US-1 then on to route 1A, heading up along the coastline. Finally, getting back on US-1 will lead you straight into Portland.
Kittery is a popular shopping destination, with the Kittery Trading Post, several outlet stores, and Yummies candy store.
Another option would be to head up I-93 to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, then head along NH-11 towards the Maine coast line.

Some Other Stops
As Tim points out, you'll only need two hours to make the drive, so you'll have lots of time to roam, if you don't wander too far off the direct route (I-95 and/or US-1). Some additional sites you might want to consider include Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth, Warren's for a traditional lobster meal in Kittery, the "Nubble" in York (Cape Neddick), upscale Kennebunkport, and venerable old summer communities like Old Orchard Beach.
