Fall roadtrip brainstorm
Hi everyone-
I'm seeking some great brainstorming ideas on where I should go for a brief 5 day road trip in late October or early November. I live in Wisconsin so would like to head south to somewhere a little warmer. I'd like to fly somewhere and then rent a car for 5 days where I can do some type of "loop" trip so as to avoid the one-way drop-off fees. I'm interested in historical stuff, enjoy both rural/wilderness areas and the city, am in good shape so wouldn't mind some day hikes or similar, am a very experienced solo female road tripper and am basically just looking for some ideas.
Areas I'm tossing around now include:
a. Charleston, SC and environs...something like this.
b. Grand Canyon and around ala this article.
c. Maybe somewhere in Kentucky or near the Appalachian trail?
Otherwise I'm open to ideas. Thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!
Well, you've certainly found some of the best short-week RaodTrips described herein, but one of my favorites, particularly given the time of year you'll be traveling, would be New England. Besides Boston, you should also look at flights into Burlington, Hartford and Providence for deals.

too many leaf peepers?
Hey AZBuck-
Thanks for the tips...I'm with you. New England is probably my favorite part of the U.S. but I was thinking that that late in the year the weather might be a little bit too Wisconsin-esqe and that it might be the leaf peeper crowd. I'm definitely into leaves but I'd like to not be fighting the crowds for lodging, etc. and be able to kind of stop and go as I please without worrying about reserving a place...though maybe by late Oct./early November the leaf peeping stuff is gone?
Do you have anything you might suggest as being an especially good activity for late fall? I road tripped through NH/VT and a bit of Maine last year...the White Mountains, Ben and Jerry's, Burlington but during the summer so am not sure what would be good during the fall months? I'll check out the linked thread too...thanks!
Any more suggestions would be great too!
