Los Angeles to San Francisco in September

Hi.

We're planning to drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco during the third week of September. We have a one year old daughter, therefore we are allocating approximately 8 days so we can take it easy and make many stops on the way.

Which places should we stop overnight on our way to San Francisco? since we will be on the road for about a week, we don't mind staying more than one night in some places.

Any other interesting activities we should look into to break up the journey comfortably?

With so much time for this journey you really have no end of possibilities. I guess the first thing would come down to where you want to go for this trip. You could go down the coast, and really take your time exploring places like Monterey, Big Sur, Morrow Bay, Santa Barbara, ect. You could also go more inland, exploring mountain areas like Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia National Park and National Monuments, you could even continue out into the Desert areas like Death Valley or Joshua Tree. With 8 days, you could even mix it up and do some coastal and some inland exploring. Its really a matter of finding which sort of trip fits your tastes the best.

As we are travelling with a young daughter, we're looking at the most practical itinerary. Sounds like there's a lot to see on the coast. I will look up those places you mentioned. Please let me know if there are any places you would recommend in terms of accommodation.
