start/end road trip California
Hi there
Just about to book a flight I have held for only a couple of days, at av.good price, so little time for a full reviw before bookig.from the UK to California next year, so at the early planning stage.
I have 21 nights, but am considering flying into San Diego, and back from San Francisco, thus saving c500 miles, albiet the state does seem to lend itself to doing a big long loop.
Before I 'press the button' does anyone who has done the trip, have any views on my options. I want to see the 3 main cities, drive up the coast via the Big Sur, see Yosemite, poss lake Tahoe. having had a quick look at my old Rugh Guide to the USA, I want to get off the beaten track, to some gold towns, and maybe a flavour of Nth Cal.
Or use Las Vegas as the hub

Your plan will work fine, or you could use Las Vegas, Nevada as the hub airport and see more of California. Here are some more routing ideas. Here is a road trip that used San Francisco as the loop/hub.
