Campgrounds around Frederick, MD ?

Hi!

I'm new here, although I did use this site a bit on my last little road trip down to FL in February. Thanks for all the tips!

I'm going to Frederick, Maryland next week and I'm looking for advice on any of the camprounds in the area if anyone knows of any. I'm mostly visitng family so we won't we at the campground all that much. I didn't have a chance to explore any of the campgrounds when I was down there last and this seemed like the best place to ask. Any help would be great! It will be great to find a more affordable way to visit down there. The hotels are so pricey and I'd rather camp if I can.

I'm also planning a Road Trip from NH to SD and WY so you'll be hearing more from me as that gets closer!

If you need to be near Frederick, then one option would be Gambrill State Park just outside of town. If you can stay a little farther out, then a few other possibilities open up including some along the Potomac River at Fort Frederick and the C&O Canal

I was looking at Gambrill State park since it's very close to my brother's place but I hadn't had a chance to check it out. Have you stayed there before?
