My wife, 8 y.o. stepson and I are taking a 6 to 8 day trip from Eugene to Legoland in Carlsbad in March. I want to see the redwoods and take some time to see some cool stuff along the way, other than that I am at a loss.
My family and I are mountain bikers and I really want to rent some bikes somewhere in CA for a half day or so and do a scenic single track, but nothing technical, but I don't know of any good places to go.
Other ideas are welcome(needed!).

I took my two young grandsons to Legoland a couple of years ago and they loved it. While in the area the other great place to go is Balboa Park in San Diego, with botanical gardens, great walks and at least 3 museums with a special appeal to young boys: Auto, Aviation, and Natural History (dinos and giant bugs). I don't know much about biking in Southern California, but I bet these people do. And here are a few places to let your son blow off some steam on the way down.
