looking for a place to stay-- need help

me and a group of 10 people are looking for an inexpensive place in NH to camp for a weekend. the inexpensive places we have found have no cell phone service and no public phones and we arent that experienced with camping, so we arent comfortable being that "alone". every other place we have found is expensive and is to much of a tourist attraction with pools and arcades and waterslides. we are looking for a place in the mountains or lake region where we can hike, swim, and actually camp, but still have access to the real world. any ideas or suggestions? anything would be helpful.

New Hampshire is graced with several state parks and lots of options all through the White Mountains.

Even if there isn't a pay phone (which seems unlikely in a public/state park campground) there will likely be a host to help out with anything you need.

If you've found primitive campgrounds with no facilities other than maybe a pit toilet, they probably assume you are either experienced enough to get along, or are willing to take the slight chance that someone will get seriously hurt.

Seems to me that 10 people aren't alone, just by the nature of the size of the group. If you have a good first aid kit (don't scrimp), and know how to use it, you should be able to handle the few scrapes and such that might occur. And it would be good to know where the closest emergency room is, just in case.

You need to know how to operate any gas appliances such as stoves and lanterns safely, and don't let kids play with knives, hatchets, or play around streams or lakes without adult supervision.

Other than that, you can't do much to hurt yourselves.

If you don't feel you have this level of competency, then you probably need a more developed campground.

A safe holiday is a fun holiday, regardless of the surroundings.
