Seattle to Vegas to LA to Seattle-- Western Loop?

Hi,

I'm looking to take a trip in the end of August to see a lot of both city and natural sites with some friends in college with me. We have roughly 10 days. I've been to yellowstone so that's no big deal, and am familiar with LA, etc. Accordingly, we were thinking of leaving Seattle and heading through Idaho to Salt Lake City to Vegas to LA to San Francisco to somewhere on the Oregon Coast (many small campgrounds) and back to Seattle. Any advice on routes? Also, any advice on camp grounds around those cities but within range that might save some money versus a hotel?

The first part of your trip was covered recently in this post, while the leg from Salt Lake City to San Francisco was discussed in this thread. Trip Guru Judy is a font of wisdom on the northwest coast, and I highly recommend that you read her take on the run back up to Seattle. You can almost always find commercial campgrounds within easy driving distance of even major cities. Check out the KOA and Good Sam Club websites for locations. Jellystone is another possibility that is more family and kid oriented. And, of course, check out the state park websites as well
