Okay so after traveling a bit with my family, I decided it would be fun and good for myself to travel around a bit next summer. The thing is, I'm not sure what I want to do. I'd be starting of at my home close to New Orleans, LA. But I wanted some advice from where people live to find an ending destination and some nice (cheap) hotels to stay. I'm looking for off the wall things that I won't normally see. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Since it appears you are planning a budget trip, you may want to check out this article.
You can get a cheap motel stay at a "mom & pop" operation, but you may find the experience to be lacking - sometimes the facilities leave much to be desired. The chains tend to offer more consistency here.
I only know of a couple of cheap motels around my area - and I don't know how they stay in business because I never see any customers there!
How much time do you have for your trip?
Are there any places that you absolutely would love to see?
Do you like to do certain activities (hiking, biking, etc)?
