Leaving Manhattan and going where...? Help wanted.

We are a family of four, visiting NYC in April. We want to take a short 4 day RV trip out of the city and into the country. Somewhere the kids will enjoy and shows us a bit more of the surrounding area. We are looking to see some countryside and nice scenery, eat in some different restaurants, and maybe do some outdoor activities with the children. They are young (3 and 5), so it can't be too challenging! Whilst we have visited Manhattan before, we don't know anything about the surrounding area. Do you have any tips or advice or suggestions on where to go? Also, can you recommend which type of RV would be suitable for us? All advice and suggestions very much appreciated. Thanks, ks

There are some great locations for what you have in mind within a few hours of Manhattan. Probably the closest is Delaware Water Gap, which is only 80 miles from downtown Manhattan. Other great natural and nearby locations include the Catskills at about 125 miles and the Adirondacks at around 250. All of those are a half day's drive or less away. If you're looking for something a bit farther afield to emphasize the RoadTrip aspect of this adventure, you could head down the Garden State Parkway to Cape May, NJ and take the Cape May-Lewes Ferry over to Lewes, DE and the Delmarva Peninsula for some time on the beach, amusement parks, or hikes to view wild ponies.

Since this is your first time in an RV, I'd suggest that you start out with a relatively small vehicles such as a Class C motorhome. To start to get up to speed on RVing before you go to rent, have a look at some of our many RV resource pages.
