Need advice for my trip
HI
I am new to this forum.I am also new to long trips, planning to take my first trip with my 6 weeks old baby and wife from Chicago to NJ. It is more than 1000 miles and I plan to start early in second week of sept.from chicago and stay overnight and then complete the journey second day.
I would like your input about how to plan my journey.Where should I break my journey for overnight and I would like to do some sightseeeing on my way if that is possible
any tips welcome

Time for sightseeing?
Let's see....1000 miles, broken up over 2 days leaving 500 miles per day, which will take you about 9 hours of pure driving more-or-less depending on traffic, not counting extra time for stops for fuel, meals, restroom breaks, diaper-changing breaks, etc.....and you still want to do some sightseeing? Personally, I don't think that's gonna be possible. If you want to do some sightseeing, I think you need to see if you can fit in an extra day.
Congrats on the new baby!

2 Days!!!
That's rough with a 20 year old as a passenger. I can't imagine a 6 week old baby. I'd definitely look into adding at least a day to that time.
I don't tend to plan ahead for where I'll stop for the night. The route you're travelling is pretty populated and you should have no more than 50 miles between hotels/motels. I'd plan on playing it by ear, especially with a baby on board.
