San Francisco to Las Vegas via Yosemite

Hi All

We are from Australia and although we will not be in San Francisco till May 2008 my partner and I and 2 friends are looking to travel from San Francisco to Las Vegas via Yosemite. We would love to hear from anyone who can help us with tips on the best car rental, places to stay and any other information that would be useful for our holiday. We arrive in San Francisco on 7th May 2008 after cruising from Sydney via the South Pacific. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us and we are so excited about the trip. I have been in the US before but that was about 20 years ago and really looking forward to seeing it again and doing more this time around. Would dearly love to fly through or over the Grand Canyon.

For rental cars, personally, I use whichever one I can find the best rate. There may be some difference between the companies, but I tend to think the differences are small enough that price is the biggest thing.

As far as driving between SF and LV, it is undoubtedly the most popular discussion on this forum. By looking around a little bit, using the thread suggestions at the bottom of this page as well as the Forum's Search engine, you'll find lots of ideas to help get you on your way.

Pretty iffy that early in May

As you will read in these posts, Tioga Pass is pretty iffy for early May. But you can still visit Yosemite on the way to Las Vegas, but you will need to do some zig zagging. Either over Sonora Pass or one of the other passes north or south that might be open.
